New vocal booth

GilderSound gets a makeover
Starting in fall 2010, the studio went through a major renovation and equipment upgrade. Randy hired noted studio designer Dave Ahl to analyze his existing spaces and also design a vocal booth. Ahl's crew built and installed absorber wall panels and diffusors for the control room and new booth. The booth itself was built by contractor Rob Jutz, with wiring help from Rob Anderson. The result was a big improvement in the control room acoustics and the booth is terrific for recording vocals and instruments. The studio now has three rooms where musicians can record simultaneously.

A long list of new gear is part of the makeover. A Mac Pro computer equipped with Pro Tools HD3 Accel and top plugins and virtual instruments, including Melodyne, Avid Heat, Native Instruments Kontact 8, Waves Platinum, and Massenberg EQ's. The Apogee Symphony system brings A/D and D/A conversion to a new level. The Great River MixMaster 20 is a compact mixer with excellent preamps and monitoring capabilities and 20 channels of analog goodness during mixing. A patchbay system make it possible to use many combinations of our extensive array of outboard gear while recording, mixing, or mastering. Recent additions include eq's from API and Maag, compressors by A Designs, Retro, and Inward Connections, and the superb Bricasti M7 reverb. Top it off with some additions to the mic locker and instrument collection and let's not forget the refurbished vintage Rhodes electric piano. I know I'm bragging, but I think this is a special place to record.
